We are about 1/4 done with the 80 or so different pages being cleaned up. You might have seen some of them in groups and blogs. Some of the new ones will have a few more edits. The bigger ones being worked on now are Message Center, main page (community and open/close 3-tab panel), profile page (take poll) , hotlist/flirts, and friend network. There are three teams of developers so some work is being done in parallel. Will take about a month to complete this phase although the Message Center is the top priority.
If you see a page that is really ugly, just post the url here... without the domain name (e.g., /blog/Andrew/). While I've marked up many pages so far, can always do more.

Feedback on proposed Message Center changes

We are getting closer on updating the message center to return some of the features of the previous one. One of the things it appears we could have done better was explain the shift from an "Email" model to a "Message Conversation" model. That is, before each listing was similar to your personal email account where you might have 6 different emails from 1 person. Now, you just see a single "row" in the message center for each conversation. This has the advantage of less clutter in your message center BUT makes "folders of email" no longer a useful metaphor. Instead, we can have "folders of people's conversations". To that end, we are working on the following.
Conversations will be grouped and viewed in two major categories - "Active" which are conversations that are either new messages to you or where the other person has replied to you and "Pending" which are those where you sent to others and are awaiting their first reply. Under "Active" conversations, you can decide to view ones from "Important" members (Cupid Matches, Friends, Hotlisted, VIPs) or "Filtered" members (those who don't match your Cupid settings).
We are still thinking a better term than "Important"

New main page left side live

Happy to get your feedback on the changes to the new main page (left column). It's a work in progress but we wanted to simplify the page and show more direct links to content. Oh grrr... I see a bug... it suppose to have a link to your blog if you have created a blog. It will be fixed tomorrow. Next time, I'll review it personally before going live.

I'm planning to meet with the person responsible for the mobile version of this site (the version you get when you use your smart phone). As you can guess, I have an opinion on it's current status, but want to hear yours. Let me know what things you like, what you don't, and what you'd like to see it support. While you're at it, any thoughts on getting a version working well on tablets? Thanks!

Any thoughts on Trophies?

Trophies were added back when I wasn't here so I'm curious what people think about it. My first impression is that it's a bit of a half-baked idea... giving people a trophy for creating a blog might not be as effective as just better promoting the blogs on your profile page. I'm thinking to make "Blog" be a tab just like Photos/Videos. Would you like Trophies expanded to other things, stay as it, or remove?
3/7/2013 - Thanks for your comments! We will be discontinuing trophies in the upcoming profile edits being worked on now. It will also have a Blog tab for members with blogs!

Luvpump becomes Andrew - New name, same guy...

After 17 YEARS as "luvpump", I've decided to go by my real name of Andrew. When I was working on Parejas morbosas, liberales y swingers in 1996, I had to come up with a username (like everyone else). Earlier that day, I had just watched the movie "This is Spinal Tap" and there is a scene where one of the band members plays a beautiful piano piece and when asked what he called it, he said, "Lick my love pump". So there!

Some thoughts about the main page - your feedback requested

Let me start by saying that I've returned after the launch of the "new" main page and have not participated in much of the debate about it. I think I share many of the feelings expressed by members - some things are better and some can be better executed (a polite way of saying worse).
As I have been entrusted to work on the design of the page, I would like to let you know where I'm headed and get your feedback. First, I've pushed back the "mandatory" switch to a new design by two weeks to give time to improve it.
Of the original page, I like the full "face load" of sexy member photos. Of the new design, I like the energy of the activity feed as it updates in real time. While we are still working of what things show up in the feed and it's design, I think it has potential.
The first part we will focus on is cleaning up the left column of the main page (I've attached a bit of my cleanup). Hopefully, this should go live in a test later this week. Next, we will clean up the "Community" section to get rid of the (silly) top groups, become more a promo section for magazine and blogs (instead of showing 2 blogs there). It's hard to use that space for much more than a promo for now.
I'm looking at a way to put a "Open Mode" button on the top right of the new main page (e.g., to the right of "Live Action" that will convert these 3 tabs to look like the original main page (and turn off the activity feed). Clicking again, goes back to "activity mode". I think this will get the best of both designs.
Finally, we are cleaning up the friend's network to play a bigger part of the main page. Once that is complete, you'll see a third tab to see your friend's activities.
Love to get your thoughts... with apologies beforehand for any stresses the main page "update" has caused.

I realized that the blocked member tool has been discussed before but I would like to get some feedback on proposed changes. After reading comments about blocked members, it looks like many can be addressed by consolidating the different feature-centric blocks into a global block.
If we move to that direction, I would like to propose that if a member has been blocked for a single feature (e.g., posting on your blog or viewing your profile), we make that member blocked for all activities we currently block for related to you. It appears that many people are expecting this behavior when they click a "Block Member" link. Has anyone ever blocked someone but wanted to let them still interact with you using one or two features?
Also proposed is to simplify the blocked member page to just have a list of block usernames and possibly a checkbox next to them to block activity from the IP that the member last logged in from (but not show the IP to anyone).

After reading 50 posts, I am leaning towards changing blocks so that when a new person is being blocked for any one feature, we will automatically add them to all the feature blocks available. Members can still go the block member page and unblock certain features for the person... although, it happens very infrequently.

Premium members to get instant post approvals

Wanted to get your thoughts on allowing gold and silver members instant approval on their new blog posts and comments on other members posts. We are going live with it now as a beta to see if premium members abuse it. The posts will go through an approval process but after it goes live. The goal is help promote more instant communication on the site. Here's crossing fingers!
Note: the posts will show up instantly on your blog but not show up in the "recent posts" on main blog page for a few minutes. For this beta, if you edit your post, it will go through the review process as before. Hey, it's a beta
And yah, it's live for groups too!
Feedback appreciated... do you think standard members should get this too?

Message center and profile messaging now re-supports bling and other links. See comments below for more upcoming projects (about 50 different pages/functionality will be improved in next few weeks).
